Velma Morrison Interpretive Center

Explore and discover the amazing world of raptors through the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center’s exhibits: Art Gallery, Education Rooms, Indoor Birds, Condor Cliffs, and The Courtyard.  Native and non-native birds wait to welcome you in the Courtyard. Indoors you can experience daily raptor presentations, interactive exhibits and tours of the Archives of Falconry.

Art Gallery

The Art Gallery will welcome you to the World Center for Birds of Prey, featuring different forms of art that illustrate the impressive features all birds have. Past exhibits include: the Nick Dunlop Peregrine Falcon Photography exhibit, the California Condor exhibit and Burk Museum Arctic Wings exhibit.

Education Rooms

Learn about birds of prey in six different rooms. Each of the rooms in the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center is dedicated to a different aspect of education about birds of prey, from their purpose of different egg shapes to watching live videos of Aplomado falcons.

Indoor Birds

From the Eurasian Eagle Owl from Europe, to the stunning Gyrfalcon from the High Arctic, to the endangered Aplomado falcon and the Turkey Vulture, Indoor Birds is an indoor viewing hall that houses all sorts of birds.

Condor Cliffs

Get a close-up look at the California condor, one of the world’s most endangered birds, in Condor Cliffs. This 25-foot-tall structure offers unobstructed views of the beautiful birds and their 9 1/2-foot wingspans. A replica of a cliff, complete with a cave-like nesting structure at the rear of the exhibit depicts the condor’s natural habitat in the Grand Canyon region while interactive panels feature information on the dramatic decline, the subsequent ongoing recovery of California condors and their role as nature’s recycling and clean-up crew.

The Courtyard

The Courtyard is a shady lawn with four bird chambers on the north and west sides. See and hear local wildlife. During the spring and summer, relax on one of the Courtyard’s inviting benches and take in the surrounding nature.
