Exhibits

The exhibits at Tunica Museum chronicle the history of Tunica County and are supported by the museum’s research and collections. As you journey through the exhibits, explore Tunica County with early Spanish settlers or try your luck in the modern day Tunica Casino.

 

Native Americans

See the wildlife indigenous to Tunica like bobcats and black bears and Tunica Natives. This area of the museum explores the lives and activities of the first Native Americans in Tunica County.

 

Early Spanish Explorers

Come face to face with early Spanish explorers and decide for yourself whether Tunica County was the place Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto first spotted the Mississippi River.

 

Northern Mississippi and the Chickasaw Tribe

Here you can learn about the Chickasaw tribe, the Chickasaw cession and the settlement of the region under the government of the State of Mississippi. A life-size mule and wagon, an authentic plantation bell and displays that explore the slavery in Tunica County can be found in this section of the museum.

 

Post Civil War

Learn about the social and agricultural issues that lead to the Civil War. Jim Crows laws, racist groups, the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and the Great Migration are all examined in the Post Civil War exhibits.

 

Daily Life in Tunica County

The barbershop and movie theater are just a few of the displays which represent the modern advancements of Tunica County. This exhibit also explores the persistence of poverty in Tunica and recounts Sugar Ditch, a poverty-stricken neighborhood within Tunica City limits.
