During your visit to the Museum of Western Art, explore the lives of cowboys, Native Americans, women of the West, settlers, mountain men and others through the Museum’s Western art collection displayed throughout its exhibition, The Legend Lives: Masterpieces from the Permanent Collection. In addition to the Texas Museum’s works of art, artifacts from the era are also on display and support the Museum’s Western heritage theme.
The Museum
The Museum of Western Art, designed by Texas architect and pioneer in Southwestern architecture O’Neil Ford, is an architectural work of art in its own right. Built with heavy timbers and walls of stacked limestone, the building’s exterior reflects a fortressed hacienda. Inside, the 14,000 square-foot facility has vaulted ceilings and floors of end-cut mesquite wood. Saltillo tiles complement the Western artwork displayed throughout the Museum’s galleries.
