History of Southfork Ranch
Stretching 100,000 acres, the 1840s Southfork Ranch made history from 1978 to 1991 as the fictional Dallas home of America’s favorite TV family the Ewings. Not only did, “Dallas”, quickly gain national and international recognition, but when it finished airing in 1991, it was one of the longest running series in television history.
The Southfork Ranch Today
Today the Southfork Ranch welcomes visitors from near and far who come to view the white mansion, famous double garage door, pool and the Ranch’s beautiful acreage. During your two hour visit to the Ranch you can explore the Ewing home, surrounding grounds and experience the lifestyle made famous by the fictitious Ewing family.
The Visitor Center and Shopping in the Ranch Roundup Shop
As you enter the Visitor Center discover autographs, handprints, Lucy’s wedding dress and interviews with the cast members of, “Dallas”, featured on the Visitor Center’s television screens, or browse through a variety of gifts and Texas collectibles in the Ranch RoundUp Shop. In the Visitor Center you will be provided with a unique opportunity to have an authentic Dallas photo taken in front of a large, neon Dallas sign. Your photo can be developed and available for you to purchase at the end of your tour of the Southfork Ranch.
A Tram Ride to Ewing Mansion
Head outdoors and climb aboard a large tram that will take you to the Ewing Mansion. As you make your way toward the Ewing home admire the green, Texan pastures and longhorns and American quarter horses that roam the land.
Guided Tour of the Ewing Mansion
Upon arriving at the home you will be greeted by a tour guide who will take you on a guided tour of the mansion. During your tour you will be provided with interesting facts about the years of filming, “Dallas”, and insight into the Ewings characters.
The Parlor
As you enter the Ewing Mansion, the parlor can be found to your left. The fireplace with a painting of Jim Davis as Jock hanging from above is the centerpiece of the room. A piano and several other pieces of furniture can also be seen in the parlor.
The Kitchen and Dining Room
The dining room can be found to the right of the corridor. A long table and chairs occupies the center of the room and is decorated with place settings and a large hutch is placed against the wall. As you make your way further into the ground floor of the mansion, a small set of steps lead to the home’s kitchen.
Bedrooms
Once you’ve explored the ground floor of Ewing Mansion, climb the staircase located to the right of the dining room and explore the family bedrooms located on the second level of the home. Bedrooms are decorated for J.R. and Sue Ellen, Jock and Miss Ellie and Bobby. While sliding glass doors that lead to the famous balcony can be found in J.R. and Sue Ellen’s room, paintings and photos can be found in the rooms dedicated to Jock and Miss Ellie and Bobby.
Ranch Grounds
After you’ve uncovered the secrets of Ewing Mansion, you are welcome to explore the surrounding grounds. From the double garage door to the famous pool, the exterior provides many unique photo opportunities.
Shop Lincoln’s and Longhorns
Just a short walk from Ewing Mansion is Lincoln’s and Longhorns, a gift shop where you can find “Dallas”-inspired apparel, décor and accessories. Don’t forget to look for Jock Ewing’s Lincoln. Situated in front of the gift shop, you can admire Jock’s 1978 Lincoln Continental now used to display shop merchandise.
