Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial

The Wall of Remembrance

The focal point of the Soldiers Field Veterans’ Memorial is the Wall of Remembrance, created to honor 3,000 service men and women from Southeast Minnesota who gave their lives in service to the country, and to remind future generations that the United States must be protected from forces, outside and within, that would deny the nation its liberty. The names on the memorial wall include the deceased from Southwest Minnesota within a 50-mile radius of Rochester from the Civil War to the present. Study the 47 wall panels that make up the Wall of Remembrance, with an estimated 55 veterans listed on each panel. The names on the wall panels have been randomly placed on the columns. Encircling the Wall of Remembrance are six flags of the six service branches, the POW/MIA flag, the Minnesota State flag and the American flag.

The Walk of Remembrance

The Walk of Remembrance is comprised of approximately 6,000 pavers, each section made up of 1 to 44 pavers. Stroll the Walk of Remembrance at the Soldiers Field Veterans’ Memorial, the names of veterans who have served in the US Armed Forces and the names of US allies can be found engraved in the pavers.

The Trees of Remembrance

Surrounding the Walk of Remembrance are the Trees of Remembrance. Each of the 50 sponsored trees represents a state within the United States of America. At the base of each tree is a tree paver with either the name of an honored veteran or the name of the donor of the tree.
