Sugarland
Start your time in the Smoky Mountains at Sugarland, the Smoky Mountain’s main ranger station. Here you’ll be greeted by a member of staff who will show you a 20-minute film that examines the history and geology of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Newfound Gap
After watching the 20-minute introductory film, climb aboard your tour bus and head toward Newfound Gap, the Smokies’ lowest drivable pass. As you journey toward the gap, take in some of Mother Nature’s most remarkable creations. With over 17,000 documented plant and animal species in the national park, you’ll be sure to see your fair share of wildlife.
Sitting at 5,046 feet, Newfound Gap is a world famous lookout, renowned for its view of the border where Tennessee and North Carolina meet. Step off the bus for breathtaking views of the Smoky Mountains and unique photo opportunities. Whether you want to capture the border where Tennessee and North Carolina meet, or take photos of the surrounding nature and wildlife, it’s all up to you.
US 441
As you take US Route 441 back toward Sugarland, you’ll head directly down the middle of the Smoky Mountain National Park. Listen to your tour guide’s enthralling stories of the history and cultures spawned from the Great Smoky Mountains. As you descend you’ll go through mountain tunnels, some so narrow, only one vehicle can pass through at a time.
