Alfred P. Sloan Museum Collection
Preserving over 150 years of Flint and Genesee County history, the Alfred P. Sloan Museum Collection is diverse in nature featuring everything from automobiles to clothing, textiles to photographs.
Automotive Collection
See vehicles from the museum’s collection of 80 automobiles acquired through gifts and purchases made possible by the Sloan Museum Auto Fair. Highlighted vehicles, rotated on a regular basis, include: a 1951 Buick XP-300, a 1954 Buick Wildcat II, a 1956 Buick Centurion, a 1963 Buick Riviera Silver Arrow I and a 1977 GM Phantom.
Beecher Tornado
Discover how disaster brought the Flint community together. The museum’s Beecher Tornado collection explores the Beecher Tornado of 1953 and honors the efforts of the volunteers who helped rebuild Flint after this tragedy.
Crim Festival of Races Posters
The Crim Road Race was created in 1977 by Bobby Crim, a man who wanted to contribute to the athletes of the Michigan Special Olympics. Bobby began organizing the race in the hopes of the following: running a world-class road race in the city of Flint, Michigan; to raise charitable dollars for the mentally handicapped athletes; and to foster community pride and cooperation among the residents of the greater Flint area. See samplings from the Sloan Museum’s Crim Festival of Race Posters collection that showcase the variety of art design used on the Crim Road Race posters over the years.
Flint Faience Tile Company
The Flint Faience Tile Company collection at the Sloan Museum takes a look at a company that has shaped Flint, Michigan history. Learn about the company that created custom decorative tiles for both residential and commercial buildings and how it was later closed by General Motors.

20th Century Gallery: Flint and the American Dream
Explore the regional history, historic automobiles and hands-on-science through thematic settings, video programs and over 600 artifacts and photographs from the museum’s collection. In Flint and the American Dream you can enjoy a journey through Flint in the 20th century from the birth of the auto industry to the present. You will experience the ups and downs of General Motors, learn about the emergence of the United Automobile Workers, explore Flint’s role as the “Arsenal of Democracy” and gain insight into what life was like in Flint during the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Dining at Halfway Café
Take a break in the Halfway Café. Located at the museum’s center, the 1950s style Halfway Café serves snacks and cold drinks. Vending machines and seating are also available in the café.
Shopping at the Sloan Museum Gift Shop
Be sure to stop by the Sloan Museum Gift Shop. A wide variety of unique and educational gift items, licensed Buick merchandise, automobile and history books, and Victorian style jewelry from Sweet Romance are just some of the items available to purchase.
