Today the San Antonio River Walk is preserved, protected and promoted by the Paseo del Rio Association who sees the great importance and potential of the significant River Walk. Whether you want to get involved in one of the exciting events put on by the Paseo del Rio Association, or explore the winding paths, the network of walkways provide an important connection between some of San Antonio’s most popular destinations.
What You Will See on Your River Walk Cruise
The San Antonio River separates two parallel walkways each lined with busy shops, restaurants and hotels. Enjoy the River Walk from the comfort of a boat during a 45-minute cruise down the river. Not only will you get to see the hustle and bustle of the walkways, but how the walkways link important cultural landmarks to one another.
Alamo
The Alamo is just one of the historical sites connected to the San Antonio River Walk. Once a home to missionaries and their Indian converts, the Alamo has played a significant role in San Antonio’s past. Millions of visitors pass through the Alamo each year to uncover the story behind this 18th century mission.
Rivercenter
Built in 1988, the Rivercenter is a shopping mall along the River Walk that has undergone many developments over the years. Its largest establishments are Macy’s and the 38-story, Marriot Hotel. Browse the shops and enjoy a five star meal by the river.
Arneson River Theater
The remarkable Arneson River Theater was designed by Robert Hugman in 1939 and sits on the north side of the River Walk. If you are lucky, there might just be a performance taking place at this open-air venue as you pass by on your cruise down the wondrous San Antonio River.
La Villita
La Villita is known for its cultural arts scene. From unique art stores and gift shops to its fine dining, this section of the River Walk is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Bexar County, Texas.
San Antonio Museum of Art
Once the Lone Star Brewery, the building was converted into the San Antonio Museum of Art in the 1970s. Today the San Antonio Museum of Art is a popular stop among tourists who are exploring the River Walk. Admire San Antonian works of art made by locals, and national and international artwork too.
Pearl Brewery LLC
While the original Pearl Brewery closed down in 2001, Silver Ventures saw potential in the old brewery and purchased the property in hopes of transforming it into a popular section of the River Walk. Today the Pearl Brewery is a booming culinary and cultural destination where locals and visitors come to enjoy the historic banks of the San Antonio River.
While the deck of the River Walk Cruise has disabled access, it is important you let your reservations agent know ahead of time, so that they can make sure to accommodate your group in the most convenient and comfortable setting.
