The Garden
Formal and Display Gardens
The Formal and Display Gardens are made up of four large rectangular display areas which are changed seasonally to display a variety of fun colors and textures. Discover older flower varieties in the Old Fashioned Garden. The sweet smell and soft colors will lure you into the Rose Garden. Use your five senses in the Sensory Garden featuring a dash of color, a touch of allure and a rich heavenly perfume. The Kumamoto En Garden, with its finely crafted structures and many symbolic features, was gifted to the San Antonio Botanical Garden by Kumamoto, Japan. Beauty abounds in the Sacred Garden, Shade Garden, Gertie’s Garden and other garden displays.
Lucile Halsell Conservatory
Opened in February of 1988, the Lucile Halsell Conservatory features plants, from desert regions to equatorial rainforests, housed in individual glass buildings tucked into the earth. The glass structures are surrounded by a sunken courtyard and a tropical lagoon filled with aquatic plants. Among the collections housed within the glass conservatories are: epiphytic plant displays; desert cacti and succulents; palms and cycads; tropical fruits, ferns and aroids; aquatic plants; and insectivores.
Texas Native Trail
Wander the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s Texas Native Trail to discover plant communities native to the Edwards Plateau, The East Texas Pineywoods and South Texas. The Texas Native Trail is enhanced by several Texas houses, reconstructed on the site to help illustrate and interpret the regional theme.
Dining at the Carriage House Bistro
Located at the entrance of the San Antonio Botanical Garden in the historic Sullivan Carriage House is the Carriage House Bistro. Enjoy a menu full of fresh ingredients and products made from scratch. From the breads and desserts, the salad dressings and sauces, the house smoked chicken and beef, the Carriage House Bistro creates food from the heart with a passion for flavor, texture and variety.
Shopping in the Garden Gate Gift Shop
Visit the Garden Gate Gift Shop. Located in the Sullivan Carriage House, the gift shop boasts unique botanically-oriented books, gifts and accessories for the home and garden. From hats and gardening books to home and garden deco and wind chimes, there is something everyone will enjoy in the Garden Gate Gift Shop.
