Botanical Garden
In addition to the spectacular valley overlooks and scenic views along the Saluda River, you will be awed by the beauty of the Riverbanks Botanical Garden. The gardens are divided into two unique areas; The Native Forest and The Walled Garden.
The Native Forest
The Native Forest is reminiscent of a time when the mountains of South Carolina were virtually untouched by man. Huge maples, oaks, and hickories tower over native plants, vines, and dazzling wildflowers. Amidst the forest, one of the first pre-Civil War textile mills and log cabins house a mini-museum.
The Walled Garden
The Walled Garden has been called the jewel of the Botanical Garden and houses a rotating variety of horticultural exhibits. Surrounded by an ornate 8 foot brick wall, the gardens feature a 300 foot long canal, fountains and brick paved walkways to guide you through the mazes of astonishing and colorful plant life. Also located within the Walled Garden, you can explore the Visitors’ Center which includes a gift shop and art gallery.
