During your visit to this Elko, Nevada attraction, you can explore 20,000 square feet of art and history exhibits as well as an extensive wild animal exhibit. The Northeastern Nevada Museum also houses a gift shop that sells Northeastern Nevada wares.
Exhibits
RC & Mary Ellis Gallery
Drawings, watercolors, sketches and first edition signed books as well as personal belongings of legendary western artist, author and cowboy of the American West, Will James, are featured in the Museum’s RC & Mary Ellis Gallery. Additional exhibits within the art gallery include ten etchings and watercolors by western artist Edward Borein, a rare collection of renowned American photographer Ansel Adams’ portfolios and a collection of photographs taken by Edward Weston, one of America’s most innovative and influential photographers.
Halleck Bar Gallery
Within the Halleck Gallery you will find the legendary Halleck Bar, an antique bar and back-bar first installed in a “social establishment” in nearby Halleck, Nevada in 1916. Upon the bar closing, the building and its belongings were abandoned, however, two Halleck ranchers who had patronized the bar, restored it and donated it to the Northeastern Nevada Museum in 1970. In addition to the Halleck Bar, the gallery features art and cultural exhibits that rotate four times each year.
Barrick Gallery
Five exhibits rotate in the Barrick Gallery each year. Reoccurring exhibits include the Elko County Art Club Annual Show and Sale and the Elko County School District Annual Student Art Show.
Wanamaker Wildlife Gallery
The Northeastern Nevada Museum’s collection of wild animals from around the world can be found on display in Wanamaker Wildlife Gallery. Discover Nevada’s largest collection of wild animals including over 180 animals exhibited in their natural setting as well as animal mounts and hunting gear.
E.L. Weigand Gallery
The bones of a two million-year-old Mastodon are displayed in the E.L. Weigand Gallery. These Mastodon bones were uncovered by construction workers digging a trench in nearby Spring Creek, Nevada in 1994.
History Gallery
The Northeastern Nevada Museum’s History Gallery boasts 40 custom cases filled with natural and regional history artifacts that chronicle Northeastern Nevada history and culture. Learn about the western exploration, railroads, mining and ranching as you examine firearms, early medicine displays and exhibits that showcase Native American, early Chinese, Basque and Cowboy cultures.
Barrick Mining Gallery
Discover the history and current practices of the region’s most important industry. The Barrick Mining Gallery funded by Barrick Gold Corporation, one of biggest mining companies in the world, displays items and information about the mining industry.
