Visiting the Museum of World Treasures

From the crusty bones of long-lost creatures to Egyptian mummies, discover treasures from around the world and through the ages as you explore the Museum of World Treasures’ 3,000 artifacts showcased throughout its three floor facility. The Museum of World Treasures also houses a gift shop filled with exhibit and Kansas related merchandise.

Exhibits

First Floor

Exhibits throughout the Museum’s first floor focus on fossils and ancient human history. Additionally, the first floor features a room dedicated to geology. See the crusty bones of Ivan the T. rex. Uncovered in northwestern South Dakota near the confluence of the Little Missouri River and Box Elder Creek, Ivan, one of the most complete T. rex discoveries, found its permanent home in the Museum of World Treasures in May of 2007. The discovery of Ivan was significant for both the quality of the bone composition and the unusually high percentage of skeletal structure uncovered. In Coins of the Roman Emperors a 50-foot timeline exhibits gold, silver and bronze coins from nearly every Roman Emperor, as well as information on their exploits and conquests. Take a look at Greek, Roman, Etruscan, Egyptian, Pre Columbian, African and Southeast Asian civilizations in World Civilizations. Female mummies from ancient Egypt are also on view on the first floor of the Museum. In the Museum of World Treasure’s geology room information about geological structures and fundamentals of rocks and minerals is presented in Crystallizing Cultures: Geology, Minerals, and Human Civilization.

Second Floor

Learn about military history, presidents and royalty from around the world on the Museum’s second floor.  In the Royalty Gallery you will see signatures and artifacts from the great leaders of Spain, England, France, Russia, Germany and the Holy Roman Empire.  Weaponry and artifacts from the Revolutionary War, American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War can be found in the Military Gallery. In the American Presidents Gallery, see the signature of every American president and a replica of the famous Resolute Desk.

Third Floor

On the third floor of the Museum artifacts representing significant events throughout American history are showcased.  See items that once belonged to Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Joe Montana in the Sports exhibit. The Scarecrow’s pitchfork from The Wizard of Oz is featured in the Museum’s American Pop Culture Gallery. Romancing the West looks at how many of our ideas about cowboys and the Wild West are highly romanticized and examines events that really took place during the time period. Original manuscripts from Mozart, Beethoven, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra can be seen in the Historic Composers and Music exhibit. Kardatzke Historic Authors Collection showcases the works of famous historic authors and poets like Mark Twain and Robert Frost.
