Visiting the Museum of Russian Art

During your visit to this Minneapolis, Minnesota attraction, explore new and unique perspectives on the history, heritage and art of Russia and surrounding cultures through the Museum’s dynamic rotation of originally curated exhibitions that showcase extraordinary works of art seldom displayed in the United States. The Museum of Russian Art Exhibitions

The Museum of Russian Art showcases an extensive range of Russian works of art on a rotating basis that reflect the beauty of the Russian country and the aspirations of a people that supersede decades of international political, economic and military confrontation and will provide you with a unique historical and artistic view of the Russian people. Among the works of art displayed are Orthodox icons, Matryoshka dolls, Soviet stamps, textiles, photographs, printmaking, artifacts and  paintings drawn from the private collection of the Museum’s founder Raymond E. Johnson, who possesses what may be the most extensive privately-owned collection of Russian Realist paintings outside of Russia, provides an overview of Soviet art. Additionally, the Museum of Russian Art has in the past featured pieces from Moscow’s Tretyakov State Gallery and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Examples of past exhibitions include: Concerning the Spiritual in Russian Art, a compilation of  paintings, sculpture, works on paper, photography and installations by Soviet and post Soviet artists; Photography from the USSR: Soviet Life, Russian Reality, an exhibit that featured over 50 photographs from the four final decades of the Soviet era; and Russian Impressionism: On the Edge of Soviet Art, an exhibit comprised of over 50 paintings that traced the historical evolution and influence of impressionist painting from its roots in 19th century France to its successful transplantation in pre-Revolutionary Russia.
