Mobile Museum of Art Permanent Collection

The Mobile Museum of Art boasts an outstanding assemblage of American, European, African and Asian paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and decorative art in its permanent collection that spans nearly 2,000 years of cultural history. Of particular importance is the collection of 19th century American landscapes, realist paintings from the WPA era, contemporary international studio glass, turned wood and ceramics. In the museum’s African and Asian Collection you will find works by African, Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Turkish artists. The Altmayer American Gallery Collection features sculptures from the exhibition “The American Way” and paintings from the 19th century. The Katherine C. Cochrane Gallery of American Fine Art Collection is comprised of paintings, sculptures and furniture spanning from the 19th century through to contemporary art. Step into the Maisel European Gallery Collection to discover a range of European paintings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts. The art museum’s Riddick Glass Collection includes artworks of contemporary glass. Comprised of works from the 19th and 20th centuries in ceramics, glass, silver and wood, the Mobile Museum of Art’s Smith Crafts Collection began during the museum’s early years when many of its most notable acquisitions were made possible through proceeds from the Annual Outdoor Arts and Crafts Fair. More recently, it is primarily the gifts of generous collectors that have built upon this legacy and helped shape the Smith Crafts Collection.
