About the Place
Just a few months before the civil war came to an end, a good portion of the Middleton Place was burnt. Two decades later, an earthquake destroyed some of the walls in the building. For some years, the place lay neglected until after Henry Augustus Middleton Smith died in 1924. The son, Pringle Smith took over the Place and restored it to its former glory.
