Visiting Little Bighorn Battlefield

During your time at Little Bighorn Battlefield, learn about the Battle of the Little Bighorn in the Little Bighorn Battlefield Visitor Center. The Visitor Center’s Bookstore carries Little Bighorn Battlefield merchandise. Outside you can view the Custer National Cemetery and Indian Memorial. 

Little Bighorn Battlefield Visitor Center

Start your visit to the Little Bighorn Battlefield in the Visitor Center. Here you can view a 25-minute video that will orient you with the Battle of the Little Bighorn. The Visitor Center features exhibits of the history of the battle, Lieutenant Custer, weapons, archaeology and Plains Indian life. See a display case that hold weapons, most of which were used during the Battle of the Little Bighorn; the saddle used by No Two Horns during the battle, a Sioux Indian drum and items belonging to Lieutenant Col. George A. Custer including his notebook, uniforms and other personal belongings.

Custer National Cemetery

Near the Little Bighorn Battlefield Visitor Center is the Custer National Cemetery. Relive the drama of America’s coming of age as you pass along the graves of known and unknown veterans of the United States’ wars, women and children from isolated frontier posts, Indians, scouts and Medal of Honor recipients.

Indian Memorial

The Indian Memorial at Little Bighorn Battlefield commemorates the Native Americans who perished during the Battle of Little Bighorn and the area where Custer and his men met their end. Step into the center of the memorial and admire texts, narratives, quotes, crafts, artifacts, offerings, petroglyphs and pictographs selected to immerse you in the diverse culture of Indian men, women and children and convey the “Peace Through Unity” message. Additionally, the memorial includes a bronze sculpture of three Native American Spirit Warriors ( Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapahoe) silhouetted against the constant yet ever changing Great Plains sky by Pine Ridge, South Dakota artist Colleen Cutschall.

Be sure to stop by the Little Bighorn Battlefield Bookstore, located in the Visitor Center. Books, DVDs, postcards, maps and other items related to the Battle at Little Bighorn and Montana are available to purchase.
