Downtown Jacksonville

Downtown Jacksonville is the historic core and central business district of the city. EverBank Field

Opened in 1995 the EverBank Field is an American football stadium on the site of the old Gator Bowl Stadium. It is notable for hosting the Gator Bowl, a post-season college football bowl game and the Florida-Georgia game, a college rivalry game between the University of Florida and the University of Georgia. It is also the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League.

Veterans Memorial Wall

Located adjacent to the EverBank Field, Veterans Memorial Wall has served as a tribute to more than 1,500 Jacksonville area American war heroes since 1995.  Stretching 65 feet and made of black granite, the monument is known as the largest of its kind and the only wall that honors veterans from all U.S. Military Service Branches.

The Florida Theatre

Along the beautiful St. Johns River in Downtown Jacksonville is the Florida Theatre, drawing 250,000 people to Jacksonville’s center each year.  From the vaudeville acts and silent films of its early day to the blend of performances the theatre sees today, the Florida Theatre is one of the finest concert venues in the Southeast and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Treaty Oak

As you make your way through the Southbank area of Downtown Jacksonville, feast your eyes on an octopus-like southern live oak tree. Situated in Treaty Oak Park, Treaty Oak is significant as its estimated to be 250 year old, possibly the single oldest living thing in Jacksonville predating the founding of the city by Isaiah Hart during the 1820s.

Riverside and Avondale

South of Jacksonville’s downtown area along the St. Johns River you’ll find Riverside and Avondale. While described by some as two adjacent neighborhoods, it’s alternately described as one continuous neighborhood. Routinely recognized among the greatest neighborhoods in Jacksonville and in Florida, both Riverside and Avondale are primarily residential neighborhoods containing some of the city’s most notable examples of residential architecture.  As you make your way through Riverside and Avondale you’ll get the chance to see historical residence including the Bryson Residence, an extremely rare marble home made with marble quarried from Georgia, the Leon Cheek Residence built in 1928 by Mr. Cheek, head of the Cheek-Neal Coffee Company and known today as Maxwell House Coffee and the Park Lane Apartments, Florida’s first condos.
