Emlen Physick Estate Tour Details

The mansion is designed in a Victorian “Stick style” that was popularized with Furness.  Victorian “Stick style” is an American architecture style named after its use of linear “stickwork” on the outside walls to look like an exposed half-timbered frame.  The exterior of the Physick Mansion features huge stick-like branches on the porch, upside-down corbelled chimneys, and many more breathtaking Victorian features.

This was named Emlen Physick Estate after the head of household moved in with his family when the home was completed.  Dr. Emlen Physick Jr., the original owner, was a prominent member in Cape May society and hence the estate has continued to showcase the Victorian era in this seaside community.

Enjoy this fascinating 45-min guided tour of the Emlen Physick Estate on your next motorcoach adventure to Cape May, New Jersey.  The first portion of the narrated tour is located on the first floor for a duration of 30 minutes, followed by a tour of the second floor for a duration of 15 mins.  If unable to climb the stairs to explore the second floor, a historical video of what is featured on the second floor, will be provided for viewing on the first floor.

Ramp/ Wheelchair accessible with an indoor accessible bathroom on the first floor. Second floor of the Emlen Physick Estate is not possible for wheelchair accessibility due to architectural barriers inherent with the historical construction of the property. TRIP ADVISOR TESTIMONIALS

Linda A., Aug 2022

I have wanted to tour this estate for quite a while and never had the opportunity. This year I made it a point to see it and was not disappointed. It is a beautiful estate and really takes you back in time. The architecture is amazing and the guides were very knowledgeable about the history of the estate. We combined it with the trolley tour which takes you through town and all the victorian houses. Very informative.

We had a great tour of this house. Our tour guide was Harry who was wonderful. He was very informative of the family and staff who lived in the house. Many very interesting pieces from the time around the house.
