Up in Smoke: The Early Days of the El Paso Fire Department
Learn about El Paso’s desperate need for a fire department as the town grew from a small adobe village to a railroad center built of brick and lumber. Up in Smoke: The Early Days of the El Paso Fire Department features the El Paso Fire Department’s 1901 Steamer Engine No. 2 and other memorabilia related to the early days of the El Paso Fire Department.
Neighborhoods and Shared Memories
Explore the experiences and memories of many generations of El Pasoans within the city’s neighborhoods in Neighborhoods and Shared Memories. As you explore the exhibit you will see photographs, mementos and keepsakes cherished by past and present residents of El Paso neighborhoods that preserve, interpret and increase appreciation for neighborhood-based history. Every two years a new set of neighborhoods is honored in the exhibit.
The Changing Pass
El Paso History awaits you in The Changing Pass. This exhibit chronicles major events and influences that have shaped El Paso, Texas into the city it is today. Artifacts showcased in the exhibit include: a cannon from the Mexican Revolution circa 1910; an ox-cart used to haul goods along the Camino Real stretching from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Mexico City; rifles from the mid 1800s; and a wine vat made of cow hide dating from 1850 to 1900.
