Remaining historically true to the vision of its founders, today the Cleveland Museum of Art strives to help the broadest possible audience understand and engage with the world’s great art. In addition to the museum’s substantial collection of fine art you will discover the Ingalls Library, one of the largest art libraries in the United States.
Cleveland Museum of Art Collection
The Cleveland Museum of Art’s holdings are divided throughout different departments and offer much to explore. Departments include: Chinese Art, Modern European Art, African Art, Drawings, Prints, European Paintings and Sculptures, Textiles and Islamic Art, American Painting and Sculpture, Greek and Roman Art, Contemporary Art, Medieval Art, Decorative Art and Design, Art of the Ancient Americas and Oceania, Photography and Contemporary Art. Artists represented by significant works include Rubens, Dalí, Vincent Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Renoir, Goya, Greco and others.
Gallery One
Blending art, technology and interpretation, Gallery One is an innovative gallery that encourages visitors to delve deeper into the museum’s permanent holdings. Delight in authentic works of art from the museum’s collection including significant works by Pablo Picasso, Auguste Rodin, Viktor Schreckengost, Giovanni Panini and Chuck Close. Hands-on and technology-based activities will give you a better understanding of how works of art are made, where they come from and why they are produced. Also part of Gallery One is the 40-foot Collection Wall, the largest multi-touch microtile screen in the country displaying images of over 3,500 objects from the museum’s world renowned permanent collection.
Ingalls Library
In addition to its impressive collection of fine art, the Cleveland Museum of Art is also home to Ingalls Library, one of the United States largest art libraries. While the initial intent of the Ingalls Library in 1913 was to assemble a collection of 10,000 volumes of photographs and archival works, by the 1950s the collection of books alone had surpassed 37,000 and photographic collection neared 47,000. Today in the Ingalls Library you will discover over 431,000 volumes and 500,000 digitized slides.
The Museum Store

- In addition to the Museum Store, major special exhibitions at the museum include a store at the exhibition exit. Such stores are dedicated to merchandise, souvenirs and catalogues and books related to the art, artists, and subjects represented in the exhibition.
- Take a break at the Cleveland Museum of Art restaurant. Provenance Café offers lunch and snack options. It features an open kitchen concept where you can watch chefs prepare your meal right before your eyes.
