Historic Carriages and Wagons
The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum boasts a collection of over 150 horse-drawn vehicles, one of the largest collections of historic carriages and wagons in the United States. The collection includes a mix of restored and unaltered, original-condition vehicles, some used by residents in Cheyenne while others have ties to Wyoming. Specialized carriages on display from local Cheyenne businesses include an ambulance, ice cream wagon and a milk wagon manufactured by the John Guedelhoefer Wagon Company of Indianapolis that operated between 1929 and 1969. Additional carriages on display include two-wheeled carts. The Museum’s four-wheeled dog cart often referred to as the Dog Cart Phaeton from circa 1895 was manufactured by the Wood Brothers Company of New York. Owners of the Dog Cart Phaeton, Fred and Margaret Boice, used the horse-drawn wagon even after the demand for horses ended. Some of the carriages that belong to the Museum’s collection can be seen during the many parades that take place during Cheyenne Frontier Days.
