Cedarhurst Center for the Arts Permanent Collection
The Cedarhurst Center for the Arts’ permanent collection in comprised of 19th and early 20th century American paintings, sculpture and decorative arts collected by John R. and Eleanor R. Mitchell over four decades. Highlights of the collection include works by: Thomas Eakins, Robert Henri, William Glackens, George Luks, John Sloan, Arthur B. Davies, Maurice Prendergast, members of The Eight, Childe Hassam, J. Alden Weir, members of The Ten, Mary Cassatt and John Singer Sargent.
Main Gallery
A variety of art exhibitions featuring the works of regional, national and international artists are presented in the Cedarhurst Center for the Arts’ Main Gallery. Additionally, the Main Gallery hosts interpretive programs throughout the year that will enable you to experience the exhibits more fully.
Beal Grand Corridor Gallery
The Lawrence J. Beal Family Grand Corridor Gallery was added to the Center during an expansion in November of 2008. A variety of temporary exhibits can be found on view in Beal Grand Corridor Gallery throughout the year.
Kuenz Sculpture Park
Wander through Cedarhurst Center for the Arts’ Kuenz Sculpture Park and experience art in a natural setting. Kuenz Sculpture Park, combining art and nature across acres of meadows and woods, was established by the Center’s sculpture committee in 1992. The Museum’s open-air art gallery includes over 60 large-scale sculptures by nationally and internationally recognized artists including Dennis Oppenheim, Alexander Liberman, Fletcher Benton and Chakaia Booker. Significant works in the sculpture garden include Emergency by Tova Beck-Friedman, Folded Square Alphabeat U by Fletcher Benton and Dolmen by Pat McDonald. Works on loan are also on view throughout the Kuenz Sculpture Park and include Venus Verde by Kathleen Holmes, Serendipity by Chakaia Booker and the Apple of Eve’s Eye by Howard Kalish. Alfio Bonanno’s site-specific installation Self-Suspended/Fallen and Dancers, the floating sculpture by Martha Enzmann have both gained widespread recognition: Bonanno’s sculpture on the front of Sculpture Magazine and Martha Enzmann’s sculpture on the cover of Sculpture Parks and Gardens of America.
