Casey Jones Home and Railroad Museum
The Casey Jones Railroad Museum is housed in a beautiful 8,000-square-foot building modeled after an 1890s train depot and tells the story of engineer Casey Jones, who became internationally known for his heroic last ride on April 30th, 1900 when he saved passengers on his train from a potentially fatal crash. Jones lost his life in the crash, but was hailed a hero for saving all of the passengers onboard. Start your visit to the Casey Jones Museum with a short documentary about the life of Casey Jones in the museum’s theater. Museum exhibits explore the railroad’s role in the Civil War, Jackson, Texas’ rich railroad history and the life of Casey Jones including his rise through the railroad ranks to engineer. Outside you can climb into the cab of a steam train and ring the engine’s bell. Also part of the museum is the Casey Jones Home. Tour the Jones’ home and see how Jones and his family lived during the 1900s.
