During your visit to the Barksdale Global Power Museum, exhibit galleries examine the dynamic history of Strategic Bombardment, home of the 2nd Bomb Wing, the mighty 8th Air Force and the new Air Force Global Strike Command. Outdoors you will discover planes that belong to the Museum’s collection, from World War II fighters and bombers to Cold war bombers and a SR-71 Blackbird. Barksdale Global Power Museum also offers shopping in its Gift Shop.
Exhibits
Begin your visit to the Barksdale Global Power Museum in the exhibit galleries which tell the cohesive story of the role of Barksdale Air Force Base through time and the heritage of the bomber using the Museum’s large collection of historical artifacts. Enter the World War II era briefing room and view a 20-minute video about the history of Barksdale. Exhibit highlights include a 2nd Bomb Wing history timeline in artifacts from the early 1900s to the present. Admire paintings of vintage aircrafts in the Museum’s art galleries. The exclusive September 11, 2001 exhibit features the actual podium, furniture and a telephone from the Eighth Air Force Headquarters where U.S President George W. Bush made the first speech during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Aircraft Collection
Outdoors you can discover Barksdale Global Power Museum’s vintage aircraft collection in the air park. See the venerable B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator, bombers of World War II; the North American P-51D Mustang; Cold War heroes such as the B-52D and B-52G Stratofortress; and the highest and fastest flying jet aircraft MACH 3+SR-71 Blackbird. Additional aircrafts in the collection include a :B-47E Stratojet, Republic F-84F Thunderjet, C-47 Skytrain, C-45 Expeditor, AT-11 Kansas, Titan II nose cone, B-58 Hustler rocket sled, FB-111 Aardvark, T-33 Shooting Star, B-29 Superfortress, KC-97 Stratotanker, Avro Vulcan, MiG-21 Fishbed, B-52D Stratofortress, KC-135 Stratotanker and a Keystone B-6 used for target practice.
