Highlights of Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory

Big Bat

See the world’s biggest bat. Made of steel, weighing 68,000 pounds and standing 120-feet tall, the Big Bat stands next to the Museum and replicates Babe Ruth’s 34-inch Louisville Slugger bat. 

Glove Sculpture

Louisville Slugger Museum’s Glove Sculpture is a giant, ball glove, made from 450-million-year-old limestone and entitled “Play Ball.” Be sure to get your picture taken next to this 17-ton sculpture.

Bud's Batting Cage

Step up to the plate and hit baseballs with replica bats of legends like Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and current baseball stars. Bud’s Batting Cage is named in honor of Bud Hillerich who made the first Louisville Slugger bat in 1884.

Theatre

In Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory Theater watch The Heart of the Game. This 13-minute film features insights and anecdotes on hitting from top players past and present such as Tony Gwynn, Jim Thome and Derek Jeter.

 Grand Slam Gallery

The Grand Slam Gallery offers one-of-a-kind experiences. Hold Louisville Slugger bats used by baseball legends like Mickey Mantle, Cal Ripken Jr., David Ortiz and Johnny Bench. Showcased in Grand Slam Gallery is the bat Babe Ruth carved notches in for every home run he hit with it during his record-setting 60 home run season in 1927. Additional displays in the Grand Slam Gallery demonstrate how the first Louisville Slugger bat was made in 1884. 

Gallery 125

In Gallery 125, take your photo with lifelike sculptures of Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Ken Griffey Jr. and Derek Jeter. Displayed in Gallery 125 is Joe DiMaggio’s Louisville Slugger bat that he used to set his 56-game hitting streak record. Gallery 125’s Grandpa Bud’s Attic showcases all kinds of baseball memorabilia.

Louisville Slugger Factory Tour

Experience history in the making in the factory where world-famous Louisville Slugger bats are created. Enter the factory and take in the ever-present smell of wood in the air as you see white ash and maple billets turned into bats.  During your guided tour through the factory, you will learn about every step in the bat-making process from making the bat on the tracer lathes, to branding the bat model number and the player’s autograph on the barrel. Be sure to ask about your free miniature Louisville Slugger bat at the end of the tour.

 Signature Wall

Don’t miss the Signature Wall, located in the front lobby. The Signature Wall includes thousands of signatures, familiar and not-so-familiar, that have been burned into Louisville Slugger baseball bats.  A special section of the Signature Wall honors Louisville Slugger contracted players and managers who have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Shopping in the Museum Store

Be sure to stop by the Museum Store. T-shirts, sweaters, caps, key chains, glassware and collectibles inspired by Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory are available to purchase.  The Museum Store also features a personalized bat shop. Order a Louisville Slugger personalized baseball bat. You can choose from a number of styles, sizes and finishes and add a special message or your signature on the barrel.

-          Do not miss the Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame along Louisville’s historic Main Street.  Stretching one mile from the Big Bat on West Main to Louisville Slugger Field on East Main, players inducted into Louisville Slugger Walk of Fame are honored with a bronze caste of the Louisville Slugger model bat they used and a bronze home plate that features highlights from their career.
