Palm Springs Art Museum’s Permanent Collection

Since its beginnings as a museum about the desert, the Palm Springs Art Museum has evolved into an oasis for the arts. The Museum’s permanent collection includes international Modern and Contemporary painting and sculpture by artists including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Duane Hanson, John Chamberlain, Anselm Kiefer and Antony Gormley. The Palm Springs Art Museum also holds works of art by historically significant west coast artists Sam Francis, Robert Arneson, Nathan Oliveira, Mark di Suvero and Edward Ruscha as well as works by contemporary Native American artists. Additionally, Palm Springs Art Museum’s permanent collection focuses on Contemporary and Studio Art Glass by Dale Chihuly, Karen LaMonte, Howard Ben Tré, Lynda Benglis and William Morris; Classic Western American Art by Thomas Moran, Charles Russell, Frederic Remington, Walter Ufer and Agnes Pelton; Native American baskets; Mesoamerican artifacts; and Photography. Palm Springs Art Museum’s modern building, designed by architect E. Stewart Williams, is the focal point of the Museum with holdings including the Albert Frey Archive and Frey House II, the E. Stewart Williams Architecture Archive and a drawings collection with works by renowned architects like Richard Neutra, Frank Gehry and Daniel Libeskind. Special collections belonging to the permanent collection include: the Weiner Sculpture Collection, the George Montgomery Collection, the L.J. Cella Collection, the Bill Anderson Photography Collection, the Stephen H. Willard Photography Collection and Archive, Michael Childers Photography and Julius Shulman Photography.

Dining in the Museum Café

Take a break in the Museum Café. Located on the lower level of the Palm Springs Art Museum, the café’s menu features freshly made soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts as well as daily specials. Specialty coffees, beer, wine and other beverages are also available.
