O Winston Link Museum Galleries

Explore the vibrant, but gone part of American history in the O Winston Link Museum. Galleries feature over 300 photographs Ogle Winston Link took during his five year project from 1955 through 1960 that recorded life along the lines. During this project, Link captured the vanishing of America’s last railroad to run exclusively steam locomotives. Divided thematically, galleries allow you to explore everything from Link’s technical mastery, with examples of lighting equipment, interactive exhibits and the museum’s darkroom display to life in the 1950s.

The Roanoke museum’s newest gallery, Raymond Loewy, Designer For A Modern Era chronicles the life and career of Raymond Loewy, an industrial designer known for his streamlined, modern designs and praised for his work on the Pennsylvania Railroad. Take a look into life along the Norfolk and Western Railway during the 1950s as captured by O Winston Link, twentieth century railroad photographer and master of the juxtaposition between steam railroading and rural culture, at the O Winston Link Museum as part of this group motorcoach vacation package. Located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia, overlooking the very tracks that inspired Link’s photographs, the O Winston Link Museum is housed in the restored Norfolk and Western Railway passenger train station. Opened in 2004, the museum is dedicated to preserving, collecting and interpreting the photographic, audio and video works of O Winston Link and his project to document the last days of steam along the Norfolk and Western Railway.
