Moss Mansion Tour

Exterior

Designed by New York architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, designer of the original Waldorf Astoria and Plaza Hotels, Moss Mansion is a red sandstone, three story, English Renaissance mansion listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Interior

The Moss Mansion represents an era of styles, decorations, and furnishings that were popular on a national scale at the turn of the century. Well preserved by the Moss family with very few alterations, the 28-room home is well fixed with most of the original contents and design features, including interior curtains, wall coverings, furniture, light fixtures, carpets and color. Delight in wood paneling, walls adorned with gold threading, hand painted walls and ceilings, marble fireplaces, columns and elegant décor. Displayed throughout the Mansion are artifacts that once belonged to the Moss family, including furniture, quilts, needlepoint, a harp, paintings and beautiful sets of dinnerware.

Located on the corner of Division and Clark Streets in downtown Billings, Montana, Moss Mansion is an elegantly restored, turn-of-the-century mansion built by entrepreneur Preston Boyd Moss in 1903, greatly influencing the culture of Billings, Montana. Moss Manson was the family residence for the Preston Boyd Moss family for 81 years. Shortly after the last family member passed away in 1884, the Billings Preservation Society bought the Moss Mansion to inspire, educate and facilitate historic and cultural preservation activities for locals and visitors. Today Moss Mansion draws thousands of visitors each year, who come to explore the Mansion, gardens and gift shop and experience a variety of signature community events.
