Hangar 25 Air Museum Exhibits

May of 1942 brought the U.S. Army Air Force to Big Spring, specifically to a plateau above the community where the construction of a military installation began. The installation, once completed, provided training to aviation cadets in high altitude precision bombing. Today the restored hangar features nine aircrafts and nearly 2,000 artifacts that interpret the history of the Big Spring Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base. As you explore the Museum’s exhibits, detailed information about the history, training process and abilities of Big Spring Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base pilots will be revealed. Additional displays in the beautifully restored World War II brick and metal airplane hangar provide overviews of World War II and the Korean War and Vietnam War. Among the artifacts displayed throughout Hangar 25 Air Museum’s exhibits are uniforms and clothing worn by Bombardier School and Webb Air Force pilots, rescue trainers World War II memorabilia, photographs and scrapbooks, training manuals and newspapers printed on the Webb Air Force Base.

Hangar 25 Air Museum, Big Spring, TX

Learn about the history of the Big Spring Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base at Hangar 25 Air Museum as part of this group motorcoach vacation package. Located in Big Springs, Texas within a World War II era hangar, the Hangar 25 Air Museum opened its doors in May of 1999 to preserve the memories and legacies of the Big Spring Bombardier School and Webb Air Force Base while honoring all Veterans past and present. The building was originally built in 1942 with the opening of the Big Spring Bombardier School and closed down in 1945 with the Allied victory of World War II. The base reopened in 1951 as the Web Air Force Base which would eventually close at the end of the Vietnam War. Since its beginnings Hangar 25 Air Museum has acquired numerous aircrafts and artifacts, welcomed over 50,000 visitors and documented the oral histories of more than 70 community veterans. The World War II era hangar has been recognized by its local community and nationally for its many pilots who have become significant figures throughout United States history.
