Historic Route 66 Museum

Depicting the historic evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Highway 66, Historic Route 66 Museum is a chronological travel history of Route 66 from ancient days through the 60s; its miraculous murals, photos and life-size dioramas capturing each of the groups that have traveled the Mother Road.

What You’ll See at the Route 66 Museum

During your time in the museum you’ll see photo displays and life-sized dioramas that illustrate the travel and travelers along the road that was so vital in its day. The story begins with early trade routes and the Beale Wagon Road, which enabled pioneers to cross the land in covered wagons. As you venture deeper into the museum, quotations from John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath will help you to better understand the tough times along Route 66 during the Great Depression of the 1930s while storefronts, murals and a 1950 Studebaker Champion car illustrate the good times of the post-war era.
